LGBTQ+ and Gender
A conservative administration in 2025 poses a threat to the safety and wellbeing of LGBTQ youth in the United States. In a time where LGBTQ youth disproportionately struggle with mental health challenges and are at risk for homelessness, we should be diligently fighting to expand protections for LGBTQ youth – not take them away.
According to Project 2025, an incoming conservative administration will:
- Revoke the ability for transgender Americans to serve in the military
- Restore the Trump Administration’s Title IX regulation, with the additional insistence that “sex” is properly understood as a fixed biological fact, undoing Biden’s expansion of “sex” to include “gender identity”
- reverse “the Biden Administration’s focus on “‘LGBTQ+ equity,’ subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage” and replace such policies with “those encouraging marriage, work, motherhood, fatherhood, and nuclear families.”
- Restrict access for Veterans and individuals with health insurance through medicare to receive gender affirming care and surgeries
- Not allow a public education employee or contractor to use a name to address a student other than the name listed on a student’s birth certificate or a pronoun in addressing a student that is different from that student’s biological sex, without the written permission of a student’s parents or guardians
- Specify that Title IX that it will not enforce any prohibition on sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination
- Restrict Bostock’s application of sex discrimination protections to sexual orientation and transgender status in the context of hiring and firing
- Rescind regulations prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, transgender status, and sex characteristics
